There are 17 weight classes in professional boxing, and five major recognised belts for each of the divisions: The WBA (World Boxing Association), WBC (World Boxing Council), IBF (International Boxing Federation), WBO (World Boxing Organization) and The Ring.

As well as being seen as the greatest defensive boxer ever, Willie Pep is also regarded as the best featherweight in history. His bitter rival Sandy Saddler, who he fought on four occasions, also has a claim to that label though. Others include all-time great Henry Armstrong, Alexis Arguello and Salvador Sanchez.

Pacquiao resides in his hometown of General Santos, South Cotabato, Philippines. As the congressman representing the lone district of Sarangani from 2010 to 2016, he officially resided in Kiamba, Sarangani, the hometown of his wife. Upon his election to the Senate of the Philippines, he returned his official residence to General Santos, as senators are elected on a nationwide basis, rather than by district.

Fighters may initially try to lose as much weight as possible - through the use of sauna suits and ramping up rigorous training - to then meet the maximum weight allowance of their division before they face their opponent.

The fight was originally placed in jeopardy due to disputes with both camps over the fight purse money. Eventually, the money issue was settled and the fight went on as scheduled. HBO aired the contest.

At a June 10, 2024 Tokyo press conference, it is reported that Manny Pacquiao and Chihiro Suzuki signed a three-round exhibition fight on July 28 in Saitama Super Arena. Duran beat hall of fame lightweight champ Ken Buchanon, excellent lightweights like Esteban Dejesus, Edwin Viruet, Ray Lampkin, then he moves up 12 pounds and beats hall of famer Carlos Palomino and hall of famer the great Sugar RAy Leonard; he moves up again and beats Davey Moore, moves up again and beats Iran Barkley who had just prior to facing Roberto koed Thomas Hearns. Duran moved up again while Roberto was in his later 40s he beat Jorge Castro at 168 pound division boxing pounds for a jr world title. Back at lightweight after he beat Buchanon he defended his world championship with 10 straight kos. Then, a world record. Finished at lighteight with 12 straight title defenses never losing his title. He beat other top lightweights while defending his title, such as Vilomar Fernandez. Vilomar also beat Arguello. And Alexis is an all time great lightweight. Duran naturally is ranked even above him. Benny Leonard, Carlos Ortiz, Alexis Arguello, Pernell Whitaker, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and all the other great lightweight champs cannot match Duran. Roberto, with his relentless infighting, head movement, ability to feint, slip punches, hard punching, use a good jab, terrific body blows, heavy punches both downstairs and upstairs, his great chin, plus his stamina, means he eats them all at lightweight, IMO.

The fight was rewarded with a paid crowd of 36,371 and a gate of $6,359,985, according to post-fight tax reports filed with Texas boxing regulators. Counting complimentary tickets delivered to sponsors, media outlets and others, the Dallas fight attracted 41,843, well short of the 50,994 that was previously announced, but still an epic number for boxing. In addition, the bout drew 700,000 pay-per-view buys and earned $35.3 million in domestic revenue.

Of all the legendary fighters to have competed at bantamweight, Brazilian Eder Jofre is known as the top champion in history. George Dixon, the first black world champion ever in boxing, is another all-time great of the weight.

During the 19th and again at the beginning of the 20th century, the popularity of boxing brought about the formation of weight divisions other than the heavyweight class to eliminate the handicap of smaller contestants’ having to concede excessive weight to their opponents. Some of these weight divisions originated in the United States, others in Great Britain.

The next "Glamour Division" boxing weight class is featherweight, which has a limit of 126 pounds. The division’s inaugural championship bout happened back in 1889, when Ike Weir bested Frank Murphy in one of boxing’s most famous fights. Nowadays, featherweight is one of boxing’s most active weight divisions.
