The only eight-division champion in boxing history, Pacquiao won his first title at 108 pounds and somehow captured a title at 154 pounds too. He will be best remembered for his 2015 fight with Floyd Mayweather that shattered revenue records; a quartet of thrilling fights with his greatest rival, Juan Manuel Marquez; and a meteoric rise during the 2000s highlighted by spectacular knockouts of notable fighters no matter how high he climbed in weight.

Following his victory over Rios, Pacquiao sought out and ultimately got a rematch with the WBO welterweight champion of the world: Timothy Bradley who, following his controversial win over Pacquiao in their first fight in 2012, had defended the title with a victory over Ruslan Provodnikov, followed by a close, but clear split decision verdict over Juan Manuel Márquez. The fight was eventually set for the date of April 12, 2014, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In a tough fight, Pacquiao came on the stronger of the two fighters throughout the later rounds of the fight to end up gaining a unanimous decision victory from the judges 118–110, 116–112, and 116–112.

Understanding these additional considerations provides insight into the complexities behind each bout. Boxers navigate these challenges regularly, showcasing not just physical prowess but also strategic acumen as they prepare for competition.

After the split in the 1960s between the World Boxing Association (WBA) and the World Boxing Council (WBC), the divisions were narrowed, creating more champions simultaneously, and making it easier for fighters to move between different weight divisions. Among the professional bodies, the names of the new divisions are not standardized between different sanctioning bodies, although the cutoff weights are. These weights are specified in pounds, reflecting the historic dominance of Britain (and, later, the United States) in the sport.

This division was originally brought in with a 99 lbs weight limit but was stopped and then brought back in the 1970s by the WBC. The division is home to some amazing talents such as Japanese fighters Kenshiro Teraji and Sivenathi Nontshinga as well as many more amazing fighters.

Duterte, meanwhile, chides that Pacquiao is too "old" to succeed at an elite level of boxing. Pacquiao argues his extended break has revitalized him, helping him reunite with the energy he possessed during the peak of his success in his late 20s.

Today, boxing features 17 major weight classes, each with its champions and contenders. These divisions range from the swift and strategic minimumweights to the powerhouse heavyweights. This spectrum ensures that boxers of all sizes have a platform to showcase their skills, making the sport more dynamic and varied than ever.

Arguably boxing’s most prestigious division outside of heavyweight, welterweight has boasted an abundance of illustrious champions. First formed in 1889 at a limit of 145 pounds, welterweight was readjusted to the current 147 pounds in 1909.

Pac-Man fell to Erik Morales via unanimous decision in March 2005 and lost a chance to win the IBA and vacant WBC International super featherweight titles, but he then won 15 straight matches in response during an undefeated streak that spanned seven years and three months.

The slugger pays little attention to technique and would rather overwhelm the opponent with his brute force and strength. Often, sluggers aren’t afraid to take a decent amount of punishment to deal with the volume of damage.

The original smallest boxing weight class is flyweight, which has a limit of 112 pounds. It is the youngest of the "Glamour Divisions," first being recognized by the British Boxing Board of Control in 1911. The first flyweight champion was Jimmy Wilde, whose reign lasted from 1916 until 1923.

Minuses: Haney is tall (5-foot-8) and has fought at 135 his entire career, which means he should have no trouble transitioning into a new division. However, the fact is that he’s making his 140-pound debut on Saturday. We’ll see how he looks. And he’s a light puncher. His last seven victories have come by decision.

It's been more than 22 years since we have had an undisputed champion in this division (never in the four-belt era). The last one was Lennox Lewis in 1999. The heavyweight division has always been the most appealing and glamorous in boxing. These athletes' sheer size and punching power have always captivated the imaginations of hardcore boxing fans as well as casual fans. This division nowadays includes three of the biggest heavyweights in boxing history: "The Gypsy King" Tyson Fury stands at 6-foot-9, "The Bronze Bomber" Deontay Wilder at 6-foot-7 and Anthony Joshua at 6-foot-6. Plus, there's one unique fighter, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. He now holds three out of four heavyweight titles after defeating Joshua and is awaiting his rematch on Aug. 20. If Usyk wins again, the lineal and WBC champion Tyson Fury may be intrigued to come out of retirement for the right price to add to his legacy in an epic showdown with the always dangerous Usyk. Hence, making this division No. 2 on my list.image
