Finally, but definitely not least, we have the Heavyweights, the ultimate level. Unmatched power in the ring with no limit to weight, entering some of the most legendary knockouts seen in the sport. With some of the largest fighters, this is for sure some of the most watched fights.

Flyweight is a boxing weight class designed for fighters who have a comparatively smaller physique and lower weight. This category caters to boxers who weigh 112 pounds (51 kg) or less. A flyweight bout exhibits the tactical prowess, speed, and agility of these fighters, who rely on their quick reflexes and high stamina to overcome their adversaries. Keep in mind that flyweight may not showcase the knockout power typically associated with higher weight classes. Famous flyweight fighters include Pancho Villa, Jimmy Wilde, and more recently, Daigo Higa and Kazuto Ioka.

1972's "Fat City," directed by John Huston, is largely based on the Leonard Gardner novel of the same name. Like many other boxing films, it sees a former professional go back to the sport after years of retirement for one last chance at stardom. In this case, it is Stacy Keach's Billy Tully who hits the gym to get back in shape, where he meets a talented young boxer played by Jeff Bridges. As the narrative progresses, the similarities between the paths of the two men becomes clearer and it looks as if history will repeat itself.

Canelo Alvarez has been nearly unstoppable since suffering his first and only professional loss to Floyd Mayweather. He has won world championships in terence crawford four division boxing weight classes since his loss to Mayweather: super welterweight, middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight. First established in 1979 by the WBC with a limit of 190 lbs to fit smaller heavyweight fighters who couldn’t compete with the growing size of the other boxers in the division. The first sanctioned cruiserweight champion fight was between Mate Parlov and Marvin Camel for the new WBC Cruiserweight belt. However, with the first match ending in a draw, it was the rematch in which Camel emerged victorious to become the very first cruiserweight world champ.

The lightest boxing class is a mini flyweight/strawweight -- names vary based on the boxing organization -- in which fighters must weigh less than 105 pounds. Junior flyweight fighters weigh between 105 and 108 pounds. Flyweight fighters weigh between 108 and 112 pounds, and super flyweight fighters weigh between 112 and 115 pounds. The lightest fighters in these weight classes tend to be short and fast. Younger boxers also compete in these divisions.

In the early nineteenth century, there were no standard weight classes. In 1823, the Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue said the limit for a "light weight" was 12 stone (168 lb, 76.2 kg) while Sportsman's Slang the same year gave 11 stone (154 lb, 69.9 kg) as the limit.

Even after the sixth film seemingly wrapped up the entire series, Sylvester Stallone took his legendary character out of retirement to pass the torch to the next generation, in 2015's Creed.

When the heavyweight division is in a strong position, then the sport of boxing as a whole is as well.

It's 1974. Muhammad Ali is 32 and thought by many to be past his prime. George Foreman is ten years younger and the heavyweight champion of the world. Promoter Don King wants to make a name for himself and offers both fighters five million dollars apiece to fight one another, and when they accept, King has only to come up with the money. He finds a willing backer in Mobutu Sese Suko, the dictator of Zaire, and the "Rumble in the Jungle" is set, including a musical festival featuring some of America's top black performers, like James Brown and B.B. King.

The cruiserweight division was introduced to bridge the gap between the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. Its name suggests a class that "cruises" between the two, providing a competitive space for fighters who are too heavy for light heavyweight but may not have the size to compete with the largest heavyweights. The division allows for more nuanced and fair competition among boxers in this weight range.
